By Erica Woiwode
sun burns orange-red
my skin is peeling off
my chest, my bare soul
exposed to the phallic
air, lizards crawl over
numbed toes
my mouth dripping
with silence and dust,
i shake, like babies in
an earthquake
across the dry land
he lunges toward my
blackness, bright in
burning rays
of shame
"hold my hand," he says,
and locks the door.
