hero

Hailing from Ottawa, Canada, Andrea has been published in the anthology, "Gifts of the Heartland," and in Clevermag.com, Ascent and Jones Av.

His white breath billows through the heavy
Frozen air, melting the coldness
Hovering molasses.
Gathered next to the glow
Lights from the black cauldron of warmth
Worshipping the log
Guarantee morning toast and tea.
Quickly, quickly,
Bells ring on the street
Eagerness awaits the door
He comes in with the prize.
His boots melting at the door
His grey hair flying outward
When he takes off his tuke
A little crazy from the wait
"did you get it?"
Please, oh please
"yes"
His deep reply and he sprinkles
Fresh chocolate on my toast
A hero
