Blue

Jessica Cortez is a graduate of Point Loma Nazarene University. Her short story, "Among Admirers, Among Strangers," was published in the Summer 2004 issue of Turbula, and her poetry was previously featured in the Autumn 2004 issue.

There's a blue man dead
–stopped in traffic–
From the blue state of California
His license plate read

412C– – –

Now an Arizona State
Hummer gray-black
Hits and runs on by,
screaming of blood minutes, five, too late.

I start to wonder,
"Am I cold in here ...
or maybe just blue?"
