You versatile star
shining black or white
over the eight key or not
added to screen and page
You indicate
something to be
included is nearby*
*an explanation follows
Yes another
symbol with no sound
helps fill us in to
further exercise brain cells
And maybe then
we will remember
a salient sentence
that did not quite make it
To the paragraph
to the poem
to the instructions
on how to operate
Secondary thoughts**

**one can line several
in a row to create
returnable division
But no matter
what we say
we can always asterisk
whatever we didn't have
In the prose masterpiece
in the poetic music
in the essential manipulation because
you are cosmic you are dangerous***
Bearer of notice
through sometimes fine print
thief who occasionally slips
in mortifying clauses
You are the six-sided
flake in any weather
capable of changing
lives and meaning
You mark so all
may know what is
not to be ignored
without consequence
Like a Greek god
strikes a mere mortal
like an incision that permits
the entry of a straw
Mouth-like you kiss
addendum and culminate
long-winded passages****
****like this one
***just a warning
to those who use them
it's not Christmas every day OK
so easy on the *snow*
